Girl Power!

By Alysha Ellis

My name is Alysha,  and I’m here to talk to you about Girl Power!

Did you know that you have the strength within you to be all that you imagine and more? You can be a lawyer, a banker, a doctor, a mother, a business owner, a baker, a chef, or even the President of the United States. You embody so many beautiful talents and gifts that are remarkable. The most marvelous thing about you is that you are enough. You don’t have to be anyone else to be great. You just have to be you.

I didn’t always know that I had Girl Power. There were times that I really doubted myself and what I was capable of. I didn’t always think I was pretty or smart enough. Sometimes, I even hid from others and from myself. I hid from my dreams and passions, because I didn’t think I could live up to them. I didn’t know what girls were really capable of. Well, now I’m telling you, as a woman who once was a young girl, that there is something called Girl Power.

The Power to dream.

The Power to love.

The Power to dance.

The Power to sing.

The Power to laugh.

The Power to write.

The Power to hug.

The Power to cry.

The Power to grow.

The Power to vote.

The Power to BE!

You have the power to be all that you want to be and more.

Once I started to believe in myself, I began to manifest greatness. I received my college degree. I started businesses. I traveled to beautiful places. But most of all, I loved me. I love the fact that I am a woman, and I didn’t let anyone tell me that I couldn’t be great. I had to embrace my weaknesses and learn from them. I had to explore my strengths, and make them stronger. While doing that, I discovered my purpose. I found that I wanted to help other people become the best version of themselves

Now, I have three college degrees. I have created cool programs and initiatives to help other girls and women. I have helped others create and grow their own businesses. I am a businesswoman myself. There is nothing too big for us girls, but we must believe in ourselves before we ask others to believe in us.

No matter what your dreams are, know that your dreams can become your reality. Of course, there will be challenges and hard times to navigate through. However, you can accomplish anything if you set your mind to it.

Someone once told me, “I see greatness in you!” She encouraged me to write “I see greatness in you” on my mirror, and I did. I believed it. I see greatness in all of you girls, and I believe that you are all destined for greatness. Greatness isn’t something of the future. Greatness is for the present. As you look in your mirror at home,  remember to tell yourself, “I see greatness in you!”

I am girl.

I am great.

I am power.

I am Girl Power!
