How Doing Little Things Can Make A Big Difference

By Sharmili

I’ve always wondered what makes me happy. I thought achieving success and accomplishing my dreams brought me joy. This was true until I voluntarily decided to work with my mother at her charitable trust, which works with underprivileged children in India. We have a small pre-primary school under this charitable trust, and it is much more affordable than other schools in town.

When I started working with my mother at the school I had the opportunity to help her run activities for the children. We would plan fun games, small trips, crafts, painting activities, dance parties, and many other events. To me, it was always fun working for these happy souls. The children I was with were real energy boosters. I began to think, “No wonder my mom is always energetic, happy, and fresh all day.”

Working with children allowed me to see the world in a different way. Being around their laughs, energy, actions, and movements were simply one of the most beautiful things in the world.

I often feel that doing little things for others brings them happiness. You’ll never forget the smiles you help create.

I just feel that if I had not started working with my mother, I would have never experienced the joy I now feel. It is difficult to explain in great detail how these little things changed me as a person, and have made me who I am today. The lessons I learned while working at my mother’s school have made me stronger and empower me as a human being.

While I’m over a thousand miles away from my hometown, I wish I could still continue to work with these children. I’ll always feel empowered bringing happiness to others.
