The Value of Education and Taking Care of Yourself
By Gia
Who is your role model? Why?
My role model is my grandmother. She is intelligent, kind, strong, hilariously sassy, a great cook, and the glue of our family. Some of my best childhood memories are of her cooking dinner or taking us on vacations; and even as an adult, we bond over our similar personalities and love of reading. I hope to become a woman as tough and inspiring as she is.
What are you most proud of in your life?
In my life, I’m most proud of my love for knowledge and education. I constantly push myself to learn more about our world through reading books and current events. Similarly, I’m passionate about education. I truly believe that knowledge is power and there is always room to grow your personal intellect. Education is extremely valuable in this ever-changing world, and everyone deserves a fair and equal opportunity to learn more.
What makes you feel confident?
I always feel most confident after a productive morning. My ideal morning would start with a workout or a walk around the neighborhood, followed by a filling breakfast and in-depth skin care routine. Bonus points if I put on a favorite clothing item and have something fun planned for the day.
What is your favorite inspirational quote?
My favorite inspirational quote comes from an episode of the NBC show This Is Us. After experiencing a death in the hospital, the doctor tells the main character: “Always take even the sourest lemon life has to offer and turn it into something resembling lemonade.” This quote has stuck with me, as it pushes us to find the good in the bad and always persevere.
What advice would you give to your younger self?
If I were to speak with my younger self, I would tell her to always care for herself. It can be so easy to get lost in school, work and all of life’s other obligations, but it’s important to find time in each day to work on yourself and do something that makes you smile or puts your mind at ease.
