What Makes Me Feel Confident
By Madeline
In all honesty, I have struggled with self-confidence for a long part of my life. Although I have many friends and family that are always supportive of me, I remember struggling to feel confident in myself as a teenager, and even now. In the world we live in today, where social media plays such a massive role in all of our lives, it is hard not to compare yourself to other people. I have learned that this comparison only creates insecurity and negativity, and I have also learned that loving myself is the only way to be the best version of myself. Also, I have known not to care so much about what others think of me, which has helped me become more confident and boost my self-esteem. While it may not seem so, if you are low in self-confidence, I firmly believe that you can do things to increase your self-confidence.
There are still times when I struggle to feel good about myself, but I have found little ways to help make me feel better in these situations. For example, spending time with my friends and laughing and having fun helps me forget about insecurities that I may have, and being around them always makes me feel confident. However, some well-deserved “me time” also helps give me a boost of energy to take on the day.
I also love doing my hair and makeup and getting all dressed up, whether it's for an event or just for fun. I think it is essential to be true to who you are. If you are trying to mask your true self, you can’t entirely be confident in yourself.
Most importantly, being kind and generous to others is a great way to carry yourself and exemplifies ‘you are what you do.’ By acting positively and putting this energy into your actions, you will feel good about yourself and help reduce negative thoughts.
I still have little thoughts of a negative self-image, but I find that these things help me overcome this. Setting small goals and actions to feel more confident and achieving these goals will make you feel better. The more you achieve small goals, the better you will feel. Work on small things, and they can grow to be bigger and overall improve your confidence.
