Who Is Your Role Model?
By Trisha
For this blog, I was asked the question “Who is your role model? Why?” Throughout my life, I have been surrounded by many strong and independent women. It’s hard to have just one role model when you are currently seeing all these amazing women do what they love. If I had to pick one, my role model would be my old cheerleading coach. I got the honor of being an athlete for Kelly Hartman when I was 10 years old. She went from being my coach to a role model, friend, inspiration, and so much more. In the gym, she was always encouraging and pushing the athletes to be the best that they could be. She never discriminated against anyone by their talent, background, etc. She always had an open-door policy for people to come in and talk to her. I watched my friends go through some hard times and pour their hearts to her. She was there for each and every person. She held different events to build the teams and build closer friendships. I spent 6 years watching her build a business and herself. I admired the way she held herself— she always stood tall, confident, and had the biggest heart. I aspired to be like her. Watching her made me want to be independent and hold my own. She also made me want to become a person anyone could talk to about any situation. I wanted to encourage and help others the way she did.
Something that I am most proud of is being able to see the good in all situations. When life gets rough, it can be easy to slip down a negative mindset path. To add to, if your peers are having a negative outlook, it can be easy to shift your view to theirs. If you live in a life full of negativity, you can only expect bad things to happen.
Meanwhile, seeing the good can alter this view. One positive detail that happens, like listening to music, can shift an upset mindset to a happy one. We live in a world full of bad and negativity but being able to remain positive can be a strength. Your happiness and joyfulness can be a light in the dark to those who need it most.
What are my passions?
In life, there are many things that drive and push you to become the person you want to be. You can be passionate about family, athletics, the arts, and so much more. These drives and passions can help form the days that you aspire. So what am I passionate about? I could go on and on about all of the most meaningful things in my life. There are so many things that I am grateful for. I asked myself the question, what drives these passions for me?
When I look at the life I want to form, it reflects my passions now. I am passionate about my independence and striving to be the best person I can be. With this being said, I have daily drives that help me reach these passions. For example, I work out frequently. This is not to look good or for a specific body image, but more so to mentally grow. I am passionate about creating a life for myself that is not financially dependent on others. Contrastingly, I currently have a job and do things that I believe are for my highest good. One other thing that I am passionate about is my friends and creating memories. When I am older, I want to look back and regret nothing. As a result, I try to hang out with friends and family as much as possible.
What makes me feel confident?
Something that makes me feel confident is my fashion style. Throughout my life, I have been able to find a style that fits me best. Having that said, when I feel I am dressed the best I can, I feel confident. When I am confident, I feel happy, unstoppable, and ready to achieve the day. Fashion is just one of the many ways that you can express yourself. This can be anything from jewelry to shoes. Clothing can make you feel comfortable, professional, or powerful.
What is my favorite inspirational quotes?
One of my favorite inspirational quotes is “everything happens for a reason”. This may not be the most word powerful, but it's the meaning behind it that's truly inspiring. In daily life, I try to control things or have certain expectations. When I get upset that something doesn't work out as planned, I always have to take a moment to reflect. Although it may not have worked out, there is a reason for that. This situation wasn’t meant to help me for the better good in the long run. This could be a job, relationship, etc. With this being said, it could have not worked out because there is something better coming along. That factor wasn’t meant to be in my life but there is more and better to come!
What advice would I give my younger self?
If I could give advice to my younger self, I would tell myself everything will work out for the best. When I was younger, I always worried about who I was, what I would become, and what the future held. The future and the unknown scared me. Through this journey throughout the years, taking a moment to reflect can mean so much. When I look at who I am and who I've become, I'm proud. With each day and moment, I continue to grow and get stronger. Every situation I’ve gone through has made me stronger and was a lesson. All of the worries and stresses I had when I was younger are gone. Each day, I get closer to the person that I want to become.
